Hello, my name is Jason Gaines and I am the founder and mental performance coach at Gaines Performance. It has always been a dream of mine to work with athletes, performers, and anyone who wants to strengthen their mindset to better their lives, careers, and performance.

I originally grew up in Papillion, Nebraska where I grew up with three younger sisters and developed a love for sports and staying active. I would go on to play football and run track while I was in high school but I always loved competing in any and all activities I could. This love for competition and football carried into a college football career at a small college called Hastings College where I played quarterback and finished my undergrad. After graduating from Hastings College, I would go on to play seven seasons of professional football in Europe. During this time, I also would discover my love for coaching young athletes as I coached five seasons of high school football in Houston, Texas. Early in my coaching career, I was eager to find more ways to help the athletes that I was working with and this is where I developed a love for Sport/performance psychology. During my playing and coaching career, I was blessed to be able to obtain a Masters of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. After the conclusion of my playing career, I relocated to San Diego in pursuit of mentorship opportunities and the opportunity to start my own practice in a location that is filled with a diverse population of athletes and performers.

A primary motivation of mine is to be able to provide athletes with mental skills, tools, and perspectives that allow them to overcome many of the struggles that athletes/performers like myself and others face everyday. Working and implementing these skills and tools have been an impactful in many aspects of my own life, not just as an athlete but also as a coach and now as a consultant/business owner. My approach combines evidence-based principles of Sport and Performance Psychology with faith-based principles to provide a deeper level of coaching. This approach also encorporates avoiding the “one-size-fits-all” model; but rather, building tailored training programs based on each individual's unique strengths, needs, and goals. Ultimately, it’s not about me—it’s about developing a system that empowers you to succeed!

I look forward to getting to know you more and working together to help you achieve your goals, overcome adversity, and strengthen your mind!
